Lighting Electrical Colchester | Essex Electricians
- Rangoon Close, Colchester, Essex, England, CO2 9RH
Earlier this year our team spent several weeks on one of the largest jobs we’ve ever taken on: a 741kWp commercial system at Laystall Engineering here in Wolverhampton, made up of 1,647 solar panels. It’s the kind of project that only comes your way once you’ve spent long enough in this industry to be trusted with it — and for us, that’s been a while. We started out as Ace Electrical (Wolverhampton) Ltd 25 years ago, moved into solar PV 16 years ago, and have specialised in nothing else since.
Ace Solar Energy is run by Martin Brown, a time-served electrician with a degree in small business management, who made the call back in 2010 to stop treating solar as a sideline and build a company around it entirely. That decision shapes how we still operate today — every survey, design and installation is carried out by our own directly employed electricians, never subcontractors, so the person who visits your property to scope the job is part of the same team that fits your panels and signs it off. Tracey, our operations director, and Lucy, our sales and customer relations manager, are usually the first people you’ll speak to, and it’s common for us to hear from customers that the whole process, from first phone call to final commissioning, felt joined-up rather than passed between different contractors.
We design and install residential and commercial solar PV systems across Wolverhampton, Birmingham, Dudley, Walsall, West Bromwich, Cannock and the wider West Midlands, using modelling software to work out roof orientation, shading and structural capacity before we ever commit to a design. We don’t sell a standard package — a 4kW domestic system here typically produces somewhere in the region of 3,000–3,500kWh a year, and what that’s worth to a given household depends on how they use electricity day to day, which is why the survey stage matters as much as the installation itself.
We hold MCS certification on every job, alongside NICEIC, NAPIT, ECA and TrustMark accreditation, and we’re a member of the Renewable Energy Consumer Code, which sets out the consumer protection standards installers in this industry are expected to meet. We’re also a Which? Trusted Trader and Tesla-accredited installer — one of the longer-standing ones in the country, which matters if you ever need support on a system years down the line rather than just at the point of sale.
A lot of our work now goes beyond panels alone. Battery storage lets you store what your panels generate during the day and use it in the evening, when most households actually draw the most power and grid electricity costs the most. We install battery systems as part of new solar projects and as retrofits to arrays we didn’t originally fit, and we regularly combine solar, battery storage and a home EV charger into a single project for customers who are switching to an electric vehicle — GivEnergy inverters and batteries alongside Aiko panels have become a common combination for us on recent domestic installs. Handling all three under one roof means one survey, one team, and one point of contact rather than three separate suppliers to coordinate.
The Laystall Engineering job is the largest we’ve completed, but commercial solar has become a steady part of what we do — from smaller office premises through to industrial sites, designed around a business’s actual consumption data so the system earns its keep through genuine self-use rather than just export income. We offer flexible financing for commercial clients who want to cut energy costs without a large upfront outlay.
We’re based at Unit 6, Parkside Industrial Estate, Hickman Avenue, Wolverhampton, and cover the full WV postcode area plus Birmingham, Dudley, Walsall, West Bromwich, Cannock, Stafford, Telford and the surrounding West Midlands and Shropshire. Free, no-obligation surveys and quotations are available across the whole area for both domestic and commercial enquiries.
Most of our new business still comes from word of mouth rather than advertising, which tells us something about how customers feel once the job’s done. Ace Solar Energy is a Trusted Tradesman verified business — if we’ve installed solar panels, a battery system or an EV charger for you, we’d genuinely appreciate a review below, and if you’re weighing up a solar installation in Wolverhampton or the wider West Midlands, get in touch for a free survey and quote.
