Bower Skip Hire: Skip Hire, Stone and Plant Hire in Huddersfield

One customer told us they watched our driver reverse an entire skip lorry all the way back down their narrow road to the main road, with nowhere to turn, and called it “just incredible.” That’s the kind of detail that actually tells you whether a skip firm is any good — not just whether the skip turns up, but whether the people bringing it know what they’re doing when the job gets awkward.

Fifty Years in the Family

John Bower started this business in 1976, and nearly fifty years on it’s still run by his family — now his children, Charlotte and Jamie Bower, who took over and have kept the same reputation for reliability going. That kind of continuity matters in skip hire more than people realise: it means the drivers, the depot, and the people answering the phone have been doing this for decades, not months. We’re registered with the Environment Agency as a Waste Transfer Station, so the training and regulation behind that experience is checked and approved by both local and national authorities, not just something we say about ourselves.

Skips for Every Job

We supply mini, midi and maxi skips, roll-on roll-off containers, and enclosed lockable skips, covering domestic, commercial and industrial customers across Huddersfield. Not sure which one fits your project? Call our team and we’ll talk you through the options rather than just sending whatever’s easiest for us to deliver. We also offer a wait and load service for anyone who only needs a skip for a very short window, and where possible, we can arrange same day delivery if your job’s more urgent than most.

Bring Your Own Waste

Alongside delivering skips, we run our own Waste Transfer Station in Slaithwaite, where you can bring your own building, trade or household waste for low-cost, environmentally responsible disposal. It’s a genuinely useful option if you don’t have space for a skip, or simply don’t have enough waste to justify hiring one.

Beyond Skips: Stone, Topsoil and Plant Hire

Skip hire isn’t the whole business. We’re local stockists of Yorkshire stone and top soil, supplying both trade and domestic customers with garden walling stone, Yorkshire stone flag, stone sets, reclaimed stone and quality topsoil, with supply and delivery included. We also offer digger plant hire for trade jobs and domestic DIY projects alike, so if your project needs more than somewhere to put the waste, we can likely help with that too.

What Our Customers Say

Feedback for Bower Skip Hire keeps coming back to the same themes: friendliness, reliability and a team that goes further than expected when a job gets tricky. Beyond the driver who reversed down an impossibly narrow street, customers describe us as friendly, reliable and affordable, and call us a highly recommended family run business. Others highlight how efficiently skips are coordinated and delivered, and praise both our competitive pricing and the level of customer service behind it.

Where We Work

We’re based just outside Huddersfield centre, at Clayfield Works on Clay Lane, and we cover Huddersfield, the Holme Valley, Halifax, Elland, Brighouse, Mirfield, Honley and Meltham.

Get in Touch

Contact us for a personalised quote, whether that’s for a skip, a wait and load service, plant hire, or stone and topsoil for your next project. We accept payment by card, cash or cheque, and we can often arrange same day delivery if you’re in a hurry — just let us know and we’ll do what we can.

Fifty years is a long time for any family business to stick around, and we don’t take that lightly. Every skip we deliver, every load of stone we supply, and every piece of plant we hire out carries the same name John Bower put on the side of his first lorry back in 1976 — and Charlotte and Jamie intend to keep it that way.
