Paul Gibbons Landscapes Ltd has been laying driveways, patios and gardens across Macclesfield and Cheshire since 1988. That is over 35 years of continuous local trading — long enough to have completed projects on streets where the children of original clients are now commissioning work themselves. Paul runs a deliberately compact, directly employed team. There are no subcontractors, no agency labour, and no unfamiliar faces turning up to work on your property. The same hands that built Paul’s reputation across Macclesfield are the ones that arrive at every job.
The business holds Marshalls Register of Approved Landscape Contractors status — an accreditation that requires assessment of technical standards, workmanship quality and professional practice, and that cannot simply be purchased. Paul has held it for over a decade. He is also a Tobermore Approved Paving Contractor, a dual accreditation that very few landscaping companies in Cheshire carry, and one that gives customers direct access to the extended manufacturer warranties and technical support those relationships provide.
This is where Paul Gibbons Landscapes is genuinely in a different category from the competition.
In 2003, Paul won the national Tarmac TopPave Patio of the Year award at the industry’s annual conference in Bristol — a competitive scheme judged on quality, attention to detail, innovation and aesthetics, open to landscaping contractors across the entire country. Paul’s reaction at the time was characteristically understated: they were thrilled and surprised to receive it, and felt it was great to have their standard of work recognised and rewarded. The same patio also earned a TopPave Commitment to Quality award, and a separate Congleton driveway project received the same recognition simultaneously.
In 2017, Paul and his team built the Arley Hall and Gardens entry at the RHS Tatton Flower Show — a back-to-back garden called Arley’s Thyme to Retreat, just 6 metres by 4 metres, in which Paul laid an angled Yorkstone path alongside pebble areas and incorporated a genuine antique cheese stone salvaged from Arley Hall’s own outbuildings. It was Paul who identified the stone among the salvaged materials — recognising its history and its potential as a feature. BBC presenter Joe Swift filmed on the garden for the Tatton programme. The garden was awarded an RHS Silver Gilt medal.
In 2018, Paul partnered with Arley Hall for the second consecutive year, constructing their back-to-back garden called The Flowers of Arley. This time the brief centred on Arley’s famous herbaceous borders and historic barns, and Paul and his team installed a brick path laid in basket weave pattern using modern bricks carefully selected to replicate the 17th-century Cheshire brickwork of the original barns. The garden was awarded an RHS Gold medal.
Winning at the RHS Tatton Flower Show once is notable. Winning in back-to-back years, with the same partner, across two completely different briefs, reflects a level of craft that the industry recognises and the award record confirms.
Paul Gibbons Landscapes installs driveways across Macclesfield and the surrounding Cheshire area using premium materials from Marshalls and Tobermore, with every installation built on a properly excavated and compacted sub-base appropriate to the site conditions. The sub-base is not a detail — it is what determines whether a driveway remains level and stable for fifteen years or begins to shift and settle after the first winter. Paul builds it correctly from the ground up.
Driveway options include Marshalls Driveline 50 block paving — Britain’s best-selling block paving product — available in a wide range of colours and finishes; Drivesett Tegula, which has an aged, traditional appearance well-suited to older Cheshire properties; Indian sandstone for a natural, individual look; permeable paving where surface water drainage is a consideration; and Drivesys Original Cobble for a realistic cobbled finish. Paul will advise on the most appropriate material for your property, your budget and the specific ground conditions of your site.
One customer described having their old front garden dug out and paved, along with the side path, creating parking for two cars. Friends and family commented immediately on how good it looked. Another described being extremely pleased with the work throughout — completed to the agreed timescale, carried out with minimal disruption, the site left clean and tidy at the end of every day, and the end result exceeding their expectations. Paul would have no hesitation, they added, in recommending Paul Gibbons Landscapes.
Patio work covers Indian sandstone, porcelain, heritage Yorkshire stone, natural stone and concrete paving options, with exterior-rated adhesive and jointing compound specified throughout. Porcelain in particular requires a full mortar bed to perform properly outdoors over the long term — spot-and-dab bedding is a false economy that leads to cracking and movement. Paul’s team installs it correctly.
One Macclesfield customer described a new patio and paving project as completely transforming their garden, and said they were absolutely delighted with the work. A second customer praised Paul’s team for their dedication, efficiency and willingness to make adjustments when asked mid-project, saying they would not hesitate to recommend the company. Every completed patio carries a five-year workmanship guarantee.
Beyond hard surfaces, Paul Gibbons Landscapes undertakes complete garden makeovers across Macclesfield and the wider Cheshire area — from design through to finished planting. Services include garden design and layout planning, natural stone and brick walling, close-board and decorative fencing, artificial grass installation, water features including ponds and fountains, rockeries, and raised beds. Whether a customer arrives with architect drawings or a vague idea and a blank canvas, Paul’s team works through the brief from the start.
Paul does not take on projects beyond the capacity of his directly employed team to deliver properly. Work is carried out to completion without interruption rather than being started and set aside for another contract, which is one of the more frequent complaints against larger landscaping operations across Cheshire. Final payment is not requested until the customer is completely satisfied.
Paul Gibbons Landscapes works across Macclesfield and the surrounding Cheshire area including Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, Knutsford, Congleton, Biddulph, Poynton and Bramhall. Consultations are available during the week, at weekends and in the evenings to suit working homeowners.
Call Paul on 01625 616281 to discuss your project and arrange a free, no-obligation site consultation. Detailed written quotations are provided for all work, with no hidden costs added after the quote is agreed.
If Paul and his team have completed a driveway, patio or landscaping project at your Macclesfield or Cheshire property, leaving a review helps other local homeowners find a landscaper whose award record and 35-year Cheshire trading history are matched by the quality of the work delivered every day on ordinary residential gardens and driveways across the county.
