Led by Richard

Truss Developments is led by Richard Hutchinson, and if you’ve spoken to any of our previous customers, his name is probably the first thing they’ll mention. Richard founded his first loft conversion company back in 1998, at just 22 years old, and grew it into one of the largest loft and garage conversion businesses in the East Midlands. After some years focused on property development, Richard made the decision to return to his true passion, launching Truss Developments to get back to designing and building loft conversions with a team he genuinely enjoys working alongside. That history means when you work with us, you’re working with someone who has spent almost his entire career doing exactly this.

Loft Conversions

If you live in a house with an unused loft, a conversion could be the most cost-effective way to add extra space. Loft rooms are suitable for almost any purpose, whether that’s a bedroom, a bathroom or a home office, and a loft conversion can add anything from 15 to 20% value to your home, creating additional living space for your family without losing any of your garden.

During your consultation, we’ll discuss your requirements and help you establish the best way to maximise your loft space, advising on how to create a light-filled space with plenty of character through careful design and planning. We work across all the main conversion types, including rear dormer, mansard, L-shaped dormer, hip-to-gable, pitched dormer, Velux and side dormer conversions, and we’ll help you choose the right one for your property. A hip-to-gable flat roof dormer, for example, extends the width of the property and can create around 50% more floor space to the rear, while a flat roof dormer removes the back roof entirely to make room for a large bedroom and ensuite, and a pitched roof dormer increases head height wherever it’s needed on the side or rear of your home. Planning permission often isn’t required if the design falls within Permitted Development rules, and all our work complies with current Building Regulations, is inspected throughout the project, and receives a final certificate on completion.

Garage Conversions

We also offer a complete garage conversion service, whether you’re picturing a new living space, a home office, or even a self-contained annex. As with our loft conversions, we manage everything from initial design through to the completed project, so you’ve got one team to deal with throughout rather than juggling several separate contractors.
